The Design Department engages in the design and development of Mazda mass-production vehicles and customized vehicles, and covers designs of various items from exterior / interior and CMF / HMI designs to parts such as wheel / accessory designs.
Designers forecast the market trends and the rapidly-changing diverse needs, and perform a target set, construction of a view of the world, and concept planning.
They will develop idea sketches based on the concept, using inspiration and sense, and provide strategic design proposals that are optimized for needs of each customer.
Using 3D molding CAD or clay, we make an inspiration for a design into three-dimensional model. We will produce a clay model or a painted hard resin model in order to verify the details and texture of molding.
Combining the state-of-the-art digital technology and the craftsmanship developed over a long period of time, unprecedented molding is created.
The development is a process of considering and verifying, using CAE or actual vehicle test, a detailed design of packages or parts, in order to achieve various targets (such as safety, reliability, merchantability, weight and costs) to commercialize our products.
Materialize various targets.
With regard to the specific structure of the components group comprising a vehicle, we will determine the materials, form, size, assembly method, working method and inspection items, etc., so that the required functions, productivity and costs, etc., are satisfactory, and prepare design drawings of these specific structures. When developing customized vehicles, we will implement a challenging design, such as by reflecting customer-specific desires.
We conduct tests, consideration / verification as vehicle development experts.
Using actual items and CAE, we test, consider / verify the certainty of various performance of each actual vehicle, unit, and single component.
We have pride as experts for facilities and vehicles and are continuing relentless challenges.
CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) plays a part in the model base development. We will identify the scene (phenomena) of use by customers and perform CAE at the early stage of the development. We will not only propose the design specification that satisfies the target performance but also pursue a model verification that takes into account the weight and cost. Efficient and high-quality development will be realized by combining highly precise 3D data that is built by design and the CAE technology that perform prediction and investigate the cause on the desk.
Functions/performance required for vehicles as represented by CASE (Connected / Autonomous / Shared & Service / Electrification) are comprised of many microcomputer controls. Their mutual controls are not independent, but are effective through mutual coordination, so the development of vehicles becomes more complicated. We figure out and model the phenomena that occur in vehicles, establish consistency at the early stage of the development, and build and verify an efficient development method.
At a driving test site, many drivers perform various evaluations on a daily basis. It is our task to operate the site so that test drivers perform evaluations safely and with peace of mind.
In addition, it is also our role to improve their driving skills that are required when test drivers perform development evaluations.
We are in charge of obtaining approval for new customized vehicles.
We will perform a vehicle approval test in Japan and abroad and file an application for approval, conduct an investigative study on the trend of regulating works associated with such tests, and conduct planning and study on the countermeasures.
We prepare an application form of the vehicle that conforms to the relevant laws and regulations on vehicles based on the certification test for vehicles destined to the relevant country. We will also undertake the overseas approval procedures and perform translation work concerning overseas approval and product safety.
We will supply parts for vehicles to be manufactured on Mazda’s mass-production lines as well as use craftsmanship to complete production of various customized vehicles based on Mazda mass-production vehicles and make those vehicles available to customers.
We handle the trial production that leads to the technology development of Mazda mass-production vehicles.
In preparation for the production of customized vehicles, we also form the processes with reliable quality and make preparations for production.
We will manufacture parts and components, making full use of excellent skills of every engineer and various processing machine such as welding robots. We will engage not only in processing and manufacturing sheet metal parts, but also in manufacturing small volume parts using a 3D printer and support stable production through the speedy supply of parts and components.
What we deliver to customers are one-off products that meet customers’ requests, customized characteristic vehicles such as vehicles for disabled people and driving training vehicles, and restoring vehicles that are valued by customers. We realize a stable production by flexible production lines and excellent skills, conduct thorough inspection before shipment, and make available products that customers can use without worry.
We manufacture safe, secure and attractive products as well as provide appropriate support to customers.
Responding to customers’ desires and making the best use of customers’ comments, we will work on creating better vehicles.
Under our quality policy “We aim for the highest quality through accumulating valuable improvements,” we are developing and operating the quality management system in accordance with ISO9001.
Through this system, we ensure a thorough quality control of products and after-sale services so that the quality control is satisfactory to customers.
It is our role to provide customers with the opportunity to test drive and feel the vehicles we worked on. We do not simply engage in development and manufacturing products. We perform activities to give customers detailed explanations about the products that are filled with our thoughts, and have them test drive our vehicles to increase our enjoyment, as well as utilize various comments we receive on these occasions to realize new development.
